Pantycerdin
Felingwm Isaf
In 2024, we became land owners to 5 acres of ex-agricultural pasture in Felingwm Isaf, Carmarthenshire. We use 1 acre of the land for our composting project, to grow our own food, and to improve biodiversity of the land using sustainable methods. So far, we have planted 30 metres of mixed species native willow hedging, planted 400 native species broadleaf trees, and begun managing a mini-meadow. Visits to Pantycerdin are by appointment only.

Year 1:
-
Extend the hedgerow using native species donated by The Woodland Trust
-
Increase tree margins with broadleaf native species donated by The Woodland Trust
-
Plant 35 metres of mixed species willow
-
Creation of an allotment for self-sufficiency and surplus for community distribution
-
Plant native bulbs
-
Introduction of composting system

Introduce bird boxes, owl boxes, bat boxes, bug homes, and hibernaculum.

Shallow scrape to retain water, reduce water runoff, and create new habitat.

Year 2:
-
Check on all saplings. Remove ones which have not succeeded. Stake ones which need support and remove plastic covers.

Extend composting: Create two John-Su bioreactors

Focus on what we didn't achieve last year: Introduce bird boxes, owl boxes, bat boxes, bug homes, and hibernaculum and create a shallow scrape to retain water, reduce water runoff, and create new habitat.
