What is Forest School?

There are 6 agreed Forest School Principles:

  • Forest School is a long term process of regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment.

  • Forest School takes place outdoors to foster the relationship between learner and the natural world.

  • Forest School offers learners the opportunity to take appropriate risks.

  • Forest School promotes holistic development, fostering resilience, confidence, independence and creativity.

  • Forest School is run by qualified practitioners.

  • Forest School creates a community for development and learning.

What makes Seed + Root different to other Forest Schools?

Seed + Root is primarily a Forest School and adheres to the 6 principles above. However, we feel that due to the current climate crisis and decline in wildlife, we have the responsibility to not only facilitate learner-led play and development, but to offer a deeper education, understanding and knowledge about the natural environment and how to become stewards of the Earth, conserving and cultivating biodiversity and ecosystems.

We are a voice for the children, for their future, and a voice for nature.
